1. Das Projekt: Wittgenstein Advanced Search Tools (WAST)

The pre-work of the WAST-Project, started at 2011. The name of this first project was “Wittgenstein in Co-text”. The task of the project was to develop computational tools which make Wittgenstein’s work better researchable; this includes WiTTFind.

The work of “Wittgestein in Co-text” was soon expanded and is called now the WAST-Project.

WAST-project is a cooperation between the Centrum für Informations- und Sprachverarbeitung (CIS) at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität München and the Wittgenstein Archives at the University of Bergen (WAB). The task of the project is to develop a FinderApp containing several computational tools which make Wittgenstein’s Nachlass better researchable.

CIS resources includes CIS’ electronic lexicon CISLEX, one of the biggest electronic lexicon for the German language. CIS software tools include an own developed search/concordance tool WiTTFind based on “Local Grammars”, a double-sided Facsimile Reader, syntactic, semantic und disambiguation tools based on computational knowledge. CIS software and resources can be accessed on the CisServers with every Internet browser.

Resources from WAB include the Wittgenstein Nachlass in facsimile files and XML transcriptions, stylesheets for editorial outputs, ontology files in OWL an RDF formats with metadata for the Nachlass (e.g. unique identifiers for the Nachlass Bemerkungen, detailed records for their datings, Wittgenstein’s references to other works or persons.

Since 2018, WiTTFind is on the way, to let you search in the Full Nachlass of 20.000 Pages of Wittgenstein Nachlass.

The Research group is directed by Maximilian Hadersbeck (CIS) and Alois Pichler (WAB).
